Gaza Municipality and the Red Cross Discuss Implementation of Emergency Projects

Signing of a “Cash for Work” Agreement in the Field of Solid Waste Management

Gaza Municipality met with a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to discuss ways of strengthening humanitarian cooperation and implementing emergency projects in essential service sectors. The meeting was held at the Municipality’s temporary headquarters in Gaza City.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Sarraj, Mayor of Gaza;Tamer Al-Reis, Deputy Mayor; Municipal Council Member Eng. Louay Ayad; and several department directors, in addition to Mr. André Pascalarini, Deputy Head of the ICRC Sub-Delegation in Gaza, and Ms. Nasreen Al-Madhoon, Head of the ICRC Gaza and North Gaza Office.

Both sides signed a new cooperation agreement to implement a “Cash for Work” project in the field of solid waste management. The project aims to improve the city’s environment and provide temporary job opportunities, thereby enhancing community resilience and ensuring the continuity of essential municipal services.

The two parties also agreed to hold a technical meeting next week to discuss the details of the proposed projects and identify priority areas for intervention, particularly in the vital sectors of water, wastewater, public sanitation, and infrastructure.

The Mayor of Gaza affirmed the Municipality’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the ICRC and implementing rapid-response projects that help alleviate citizens’ suffering and improve essential services. He also commended the humanitarian role played by the ICRC in supporting residents amid the ongoing aggression on Gaza City.
