Fuel Shortages Exacerbate Gaza’s Waste Crisis During Winter

Gaza Municipality has warned of a worsening municipal solid waste crisis due to the acute shortage of fuel required to operate collection vehicles, resulting in a reduction of services to around 50% of normal capacity, amid the onset of winter.
The Municipality stated that accumulated waste, blocked drainage networks, and the mixing of rainwater with sewage significantly increase public health and environmental risks, particularly in low-lying areas and around displacement shelters.
Gaza Municipality called for urgent intervention to provide fuel and essential equipment to sustain municipal services and avert an imminent humanitarian and environmental disaster.
