Youth Council Elects Its Executive Committee

Gaza Municipality Youth Council Holds Its First Founding Session

The Youth Council of Gaza Municipality convened its first session at the municipality’s main headquarters in Palestine Square, with the attendance of Gaza Mayor Dr. Yahya Al-Sarraj and the Public Relations team.

The first session was held following the Council’s election prior to the genocide; however, the war and the circumstances the city faced during that period along with the widespread destruction that followed prevented the Council from carrying out its role. Given the urgent need today to strengthen community participation and support recovery efforts, the Council was reactivated and its founding session was convened.

The Mayor emphasized the importance of youth in community building and in enhancing civic engagement. He briefed the Youth Council on the reconstruction plans, the “Gaza Phoenix” plan, and the municipality’s vision for developing the city center, markets, public parks, the waterfront, and other municipal facilities.

For his part, Acting Head of the Public Relations Unit, Eng. Ahmed Al-Dreimly, highlighted the significance of reactivating the Youth Council at this stage, two years after the genocide. Meanwhile, Muhannad Abu Shaaban delivered a detailed presentation outlining the Council’s mandate, operating mechanisms, and anticipated roles.

During the session, members of the Youth Council elected their Executive Committee, composed of: Eng. Sally Abu Shaaban as President; Dr. Ghanem Hammad as Vice President; Anas Miqdad as Secretary; and Eng. Basma Al-Shawwa as Treasurer.

The Municipality affirmed that the Youth Council plays a vital role in enhancing community participation, integrating youth into the reconstruction process, strengthening public engagement, and providing advisory support to the Municipal Council.
