Gaza Municipality Begins Implementation of Plan to Alleviate Sewage Water Overflow Crisis

Gaza Municipality has begun implementing a plan to address the crisis of sewage water flowing into streets and rainwater collection pools, and to alleviate the health and environmental disaster affecting the city. The Municipality has appealed to international organizations to provide pipes, equipment, and emergency supplies to mitigate the disaster and rehabilitate damaged facilities.
Within this context, the Municipality has started repairing the B7 sewage transmission line in Al-Zeitoun neighborhood, southeast of the city, with the aim of redirecting sewage water to the treatment station in Sheikh Ajleen area and stopping its flow into the rainwater collection pool in Sheikh Radwan neighborhood. The seepage of this water has caused a health and environmental disaster in the area and contaminated the pool's water.
The plan also includes cleaning the transmission lines of the PS5 sewage treatment station in Al-Manara area and other sewage treatment stations within the city, with the objective of facilitating wastewater flow and redirecting it to the main treatment station in Sheikh Ajleen area.
The plan aims to address the flow of wastewater into the rainwater collection pool in Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, reduce sewage overflow incidents in city streets, and redirect sewage water to the treatment station in Sheikh Ajleen area as part of efforts to restore the sewage system and mitigate the health disaster.
The Israeli occupation inflicted significant damage to sewage networks and treatment stations during the war of genocide. This damage has caused the sewage system to cease functioning and sewage water to flow into city streets, the seashore, and rainwater collection pools in the city, leading to the escalation of the health and environmental disaster and an increase in the spread of harmful insects and rodents.
