Gaza Municipality Explores Cooperation with the City of Geneva

The Mayor of Gaza, Dr. Yahya Al-Saraj, discussed avenues for cooperation with the Swiss City of Geneva during a virtual meeting held in the presence International Cooperation Unit: Eng. Mohammad Al-Shaqra  and Eng. Manar Abu Aisha. Representing the City of Geneva were Julia Goss, Jean Bourger-Mais, Sarah De Maio, Theo Keil, and Yasmine.

The Mayor briefed the Geneva delegation on the situation in Gaza, the scale of destruction and extensive damage resulting from the ongoing war, and Gaza Municipality’s efforts to maintain essential service delivery despite limited resources and considerable challenges. He also highlighted the municipality’s urgent needs and priorities. Dr. Al-Saraj stressed the importance of supporting the Palestinian people in their pursuit of freedom, independence, and a dignified life.

For their part, the Swiss side expressed solidarity with the City of Gaza and its municipality, affirming their commitment to translating humanitarian solidarity into tangible and practical support. They also expressed their willingness to explore initiatives that would contribute to recovery from the impacts of the war.

Both sides discussed key issues, including potential areas of cooperation in planning and reconstruction, cultural exchange, heritage protection, as well as the municipality’s urgent needs.

The two parties exchanged invitations for mutual visits to Gaza and Geneva and emphasized the importance of continued communication to transform this engagement into practical outcomes that strengthen cooperation and help address Gaza’s needs.
