Gaza Municipality Discusses Enhanced Cooperation with Neighborhood Committees

Gaza Municipality held a meeting with Neighborhood Committees to explore ways to strengthen cooperation in responding to winter storms expected during the current season. The meeting was held at the Emergency Committee headquarters in the municipal garage, with the participation of Municipal Council Member Mr. Mustafa Quza’at, the Public Relations Unit team, and representatives of Neighborhood Committees.

During the meeting, Mr. Quza’at emphasized that the situation is catastrophic, noting that the extensive destruction of infrastructure combined with the severe shortage of equipment, machinery, and essential maintenance materials significantly limits the municipality’s ability to respond swiftly and address damages effectively. He also highlighted the emergency and rapid interventions carried out by municipal teams despite the limited resources available.

Participants discussed mechanisms to reduce rainwater accumulation in low-lying areas, protect shelter centers from flooding risks, and enhance community engagement in the “We Will Rebuild It Again” campaign implemented by Gaza Municipality in collaboration with civil society organizations.

The attendees urged directing displaced families residing in flood-prone low areas to move their tents to safer locations, stressing the importance of continued coordination between the municipality and Neighborhood Committees to address field challenges in cooperation with shelter center administrations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants called on the international community to support the municipality’s efforts by providing the necessary equipment, machinery, and materials to improve the city's ability to respond effectively throughout the winter season.

The municipality warns that without immediate intervention, the crisis will further worsen humanitarian conditions, and calls on all concerned parties to uphold their humanitarian responsibilities.
