Gaza Municipality Begins Organizing Main Streets in Preparation for Eid al-Fitr

Gaza Municipality has launched an intensive campaign to organize streets and remove encroachments, as part of its efforts to facilitate traffic movement and enable citizens to shop easily in commercial areas and markets across the city. This initiative comes within the municipality’s preparations for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr.

The municipality explained that the campaign targets a number of the city’s main streets, including: Al-Jalaa Street; Omar Al-Mukhtar Street, extending from Al-Saraya Intersection to Al-Shuja’iya Park; Al-Wahda Street from “Dbeet” Intersection to the Al-Nasr Street intersection known as “Al-Ailat”; in addition to Al-Nasr Street; Jamal Abdel Nasser Street, known as “Al-Thalathini Street,” from Al-Tayaran Intersection to Al-Maghribi Street intersection; as well as Port Said Street.

The municipality indicated that the campaign aims to achieve several objectives, including reopening roads to vehicle movement, including ambulances and municipal vehicles; preventing encroachments on sidewalks and ensuring their availability for pedestrians; and regulating activities that require health oversight, such as the sale of expired products or spoiled meat and poultry. The campaign also seeks to limit the exploitation of stall rentals and prevent the practice of renting out shopfronts or building facades.

The municipality affirmed that this campaign comes within the framework of joint cooperation between the municipality, neighborhood committees, and various segments of the local community. It also responds to multiple and recurring complaints received by the municipality regarding encroachments on streets and sidewalks, which lead to road closures and hinder both vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement.
